How do we improve balance? Practice, practice, practice!
Ever catch your toe on something and then have to catch yourself?
That is where your balance reflexes kick in.
And how quickly they kick in can be improved with practice.
I have stubbed my toe or tripped on something a number of times and was so thankful I didn’t land on my FACE!
Our reaction time and movement is so important to not end up with a debilitating injury that can jeopardize our independence, and also affect our confidence as we move about our everyday activities.
The more we practice balance, the less likely we are to fall and end up with a serious injury like a hip fracture, broken arm or wrist, or head trauma.
By practicing, we improve our reaction time, strengthen our muscles, and can target whatever hinders our balance so we can focus on improving that issue.
Some experts even say that by focusing on balance exercises, we also improve our cognitive health and sharpen our mental awareness.
Today’s exercises are especially fun because they allow you to measure your progress as you try to increase the number of taps you can add each time you practice.
Best of all, it will take only a few minutes of your day.
So lace up your favorite workout shoes (or even going barefoot has advantages) and let’s get practicing!
